After a superb series both the teams were looking to win the 1st ODI. England came out all guns blazing and won the match.

England came out to bat. They lost an early wicket but then they had a some superb partnerships. They played well and did not look back. It looked like they were out on a mission. They played well and went on to break their record of highest total in an innings for their country. Two players scored an outstanding century.
The pick of their batsmen was Jos Butler who scored 129(77) balls with 13 boundaries and 5 sixes to his name.
New Zealand bowlers took some early wickets but then were leaking a lot of runs. They did not bowl well and were taken for a lot of runs. They did not break partnerships at the right time.

2nd Innings.
New Zealand came out to bat with a huge target to chase down. They needed some exceptional batting to win the match. But they lost early wickets and did not have any good partnerships. No one played a big innings to take their team home.

England bowlers also performed superbly. They bowled the right areas and lengths. They got them out easily and did not leak a lot of runs.
