Manchester United's victory by 4-2 against the Manchester City shows that they are better than Premier League Champions, Louis Van Gaal admits.
United taken on City by moving four points clear with a sixth league victory in a row as Ashley Young, Marouane Fellani, Juan Mata and Chris Smalling scored in a assertive performance.
City comes fourth in table and Van Gaal addresses his first victory to the club's supporters.
“You are playing for the fans. In the beginning of the season, it was not so fantastic to be a United fan. This week, they can go on the street and lift their hats, and say we are this year the better team. At this moment we are four points ahead [of City] so that’s a fact. We still have six matches to go and that can be changes again.” Van Gaal told reporters.
Van Gaal constrained particular applaud for Fellaini, who United almost depleted pervious summer but became a key character during the recent upturn.
“He is very important for the team, he has scored goals under big pressure when we needed him. He always plays the ball to the same colour which is very important. I’m very happy for him. Fellaini from day one is the player who always did what I asked. You can say not always very good but never badly. That’s always important for a manager that a player gives a certain level of performance.” he added
Simultaneously, Van Gaal played down abhorrence over the foreleg injury that affected off Michael Carrick late on, allusion the hosts finished the match with 10 men as they had used all three permitted substitutions.
Van Gaal said. “ “He was wise to step off. We have to wait and see tomorrow. He had a stiff calf - he’s a very experienced player so he asked to leave the pitch. It was an error from me because I gave too many minutes to my substitutes. It’s not so wise.”
