After a 11 streak defeats in Indian Premier League the Delhi Daredevils got 2 successive victory before getting defeat in their last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Ferozeshah Kotla. DD's next match is against Mumbai Indians at home. The skipper JP Duminy side seem to set the record at the home ground.
“We are very hungry to get it (our strategies) right and set the record right, especially in our home ground. We haven’t played well here (previously); so we’ve got three games now to set the record straight. We have won two out of five games and we are at the fourth position in the points table. To me it’s not a bad position to be in at this stage of the tournament. We would like to win most of the remaining games and give ourselves a chance to get in to the Playoffs. It is not difficult for me to motivate myself and the team because we have created a good team culture, led by the management and by Gary (Kirsten). The guys are motivated to play for DD and want to do well, especially at the home ground. You’ll definitely see a different change come tomorrow,” the DD skipper JP Duminy said.
In Delhi, the performer prepared under the hot sun as they framed to carry off the Mumbai Indians to look forward for their third win of the season. As long as the batsman acuminate with skills and the bowlers too endeavor in the nets. Talking about the squad key contributors JP said, " Our match-winners have been two leg-spinners plus Nathan Coulter-Nile upfront."
But we deteminate that the others too have to pitch in to get the team across the line. “We have to produce performances around them as well; we can’t just depend of them. So all of us, including myself, have to put up performances with the ball as well. We know that our previous performance wasn’t great but that is only one game and we will take a lot of lessons out of previous game and we want to set them right especially in the bowling department tomorrow.”
The all rounder Angelo Mathews has continuously putting his aspiration to keep the crew members in the estimation but he has to still to go ahead with some of the match winning performances. Talking about his all rounder's capability the captain said, “Mathews would have liked to produce better performances with the ball (but) that’s the game of T20 cricket. It’s not always going to go your way. He has been outstanding with the bat so far and finished well for us. We have got a few things to tighten up from our bowling perspective. It’s not only him, all of us can tighten up a bit in terms of our bowling skills. We know that our bowling performance was not up to our standards in the previous game and we want to set that right going forward to the next game against Mumbai Indians. We are definitely looking forward to it and I am sure he is up for the challenge as well.”
JP Duminy stated he is not anxious about his batting order, but insists that his bowling can he more clenched further. Rebounding their defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders and the team accomplishment leading up to the match against Mumbai Indians, skipper said, “I am not too worried about what has happened in the batting department. It has been good, because in four out of five games we have been good really good with the bat. With the bowling department, we know there are areas we need to improve. If we look at the last game we just didn’t put the ball in the good areas consistently and we have admitted to that. So it is about understanding that to give ourselves best chance to get wickets we need to be consistent and understand what are good lengths and lines, specific that that wicket. It’s about assessing the conditions well and early and I have no doubt we will be there tomorrow. If we can just get our basics right we will definitely give ourselves a chance of winning the match. I definitely feel we have a strong squad, a squad that can go all the way in this tournament. It’s just about honing in our skills and making sure we get our combinations right in terms of bowling and batting. We are working on that. We know we can improve so I am very optimistic about our team. I know we can go all the way, we have been talking about it. We know we have the squad that can go all the way; it’s about finding that momentum. We have won two games back to back. We have three more games here at home, so if we can win those three games it will give us a lot of confidence going into the back end of the tournament,”
Delhi Daredevils are waitimg to see Zaheer Khan into action and skipper has been questioned about the ace pacer's availability for the match against Mumbai Indians, JP Duminy said, “I am not sure of his fitness state. What I do know is he is coming on nicely each day; he is improving. I am not sure if he is fit to play, we have to see what the medical staff say, but he is going to be a key asset for us going forward. As you know he has loads of experience and has been really good in terms of sharing his knowledge with the bowlers. He is a key component to our side.”
