Sounders Fc kicked off their season in style, by taking a 3-0 victory against NE Revolution on Sunday night at CenturyLink Field.
Line ups:-
Sounders FC:- Stefan Frei, Tyrone Mears, Brad Evans, Chad Marshall, Leo Gonzalez, Lamar Neagle, Gonzalo Pineda, Michael Azira, Marco Pappa, Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins.
NE Revolution:- Bobby Shuttleworth, Kevin Alston, Andrew Goncalves, Chris Tigerney, Juan Agudelo, Andy Dorman, Scott Caldwell, Diego Fagundez, Kelyn Rowe, Teal Bunbury.
A good win to start the Seattle Sounders FC. NE Revolution was missing their two best players from their MLS Cup last year Jermaine Jones and Lee Nguyen. Mears made his team debut at right back and Brad Evans played his first game for Seattle at center bank.
Dempsey and Martins have picked up the right path where they last off last season. Clint Dempsey scored twice including a penalty kick and Obafemi Martins added a goal to help Seattle beat NE.
The midfield of Revolution was not up to the mark said by Kelyne Rowe that “I thought they moved pretty well, credit to them. It’s the first game of the year and there are still some little quirks we need to figure out. I think there were times where we lost the ball in dangerous spots and they took advantage of it, especially in the second half when we were down 2-0 and pushing for the game a little bit, you’re going to leave some gaps.”
The sounders drew first blood in 25th minute. After Dempsey was taken down in the box by New England's Juan Agudelo. Dempesy then stepped for a penalty shot. Dempsey first his shot attempt past NE keepers, giving the Sounders early 1-0 score.
Martin scored in the 41th minute and get the doubled lead to his team after Dempsey acquired right back Tyrone Mears striping up the right sideline on a Sounders counterattack.
The Sounders put the game out of reach with a exciting goal late in the 67th minute and Sounders continued to control the action in the second half, Dempsey and Martin exchanged two short, quick passes just beyond the midfield line, and Dempsey sent it over to Marco Pappa on the left wing. Pappa sent a through ball forward that Martins caught up with and could have put into the net himself. Instead, he tapped it back to Dempsey for the easy score that would end up holding as the final score.
Revolution managed only one shot on target all night, Kelyn Rowe in the 40th minute that required a fingertip save from Sounders goalkeeper.
Sounders FC next fixture is against San Jose Earthquakes on next Saturday and Revolution next fixture is against New York City FC on Sunday.

Sounders FC, Dempsey on the penalty commented that,“It was a good cross that came in. I was surprised that it went all the way to me and I tried to set myself up for a right shot but that got blocked, so I tried to cut back and get it on my left but then it looked it didn’t have much going that way. So I tried to spin and get myself in position to get out of the people that were marking me and try to get a shot off. I got kicked in my heel and the ref called a penalty. Anytime you can go up 1-0 early at home it always gets the crowd behind even more so and I thought we continued to try and press and try to play our game. We’re still trying to get a bit of that rust out. I think there’s still some things that we can work on but I think that’s a good baseline, a good start for the season and now it’s about building on that and moving forward.”
