The Houston Dynamo kicked off 1-0 victory against Columbus Crew. It wasn't a perfection but the Owen Coyle era got off on the right foot. Kofi Sarkodie put some good foot work cutting past Francis down the right to set up Branes. The 26 year old Englishman was cutting across the box and a bright piece of scoring by Giles Barnes in the second half to give Houston lead.
The goal was one of the few strike highlights on a night where Houston was look after much more than they likely planned too. Columbus was been aggressive especially in the second half where this
team managed 16 shots and seemingly hit everything but the back of the net.

Both teams played lackluster soccer in a foul- laden first half that featured more blood than goals and only a few scoring chances that neither team could convert. A Houston free kick by Brad Davis in the 23rd minute that Crew keeper Steve Clark punched wide.
Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric, had done an outstanding goalkeeping kept Columbus off the score sheet. He put his shot-stopping ability twice on display in the second half to keep the game scoreless. At 53rd minute Kamara tried to have a head-shot home the game's first goal but Deric was quick and
put the first dangerous shot of the night to keep the game scoreless.
Kofi Sarkodie pass the ball to Barens, who was waiting in the middle of the box. Barens wasted no time getting a foot on ball, rifling it home with a brilliant touch from his right foot to give the Dynamo what would prove to be the lone goal of the game.
Columbus had a chance in the 71st minute when Kamara and Higuain linked up outside the box for a shot by Higuain. The shot hit the crossbar and landed in front of Kamara, who tried to follow it up with a shot but was denied by Deric.
DaMarcus flashed his speed in the 81st minute blazing down the left flank but his shot was high over Crew SC goalkeeper Steve Clark. Deric also saved his team from disaster again during the 87th minute.
All the second half action came after a dreary first half. Six combined shots marked a dull first half. Neither team was able to string passes together and a pair of active defenses was more happy to cut out bad passes.
Friday, Houston will defend BBVA Compass Stadium for the second week in a row when Orlando City comes to town while Crew SC hosts Toronto FC the day after.
