Preview : Monchengladbach vs Manchester City

Manchester City and Monchengladbach will come face to face on Wednesday looking for their first win of the group stages. Both teams were defeated in their opening matches of the champions league group stages. Monchengladbach suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Sevilla while Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by Juventus.

Manchester City's domestic campaign has been fairly good, they were in blistering form when they started the season managing to win five games in a row but the champions league loss to Juventus proved to be a setback as it was followed by another loss to West Ham in the premier league after which they defeated Sunderland in the league cup before losing 4-1 to Tottenham last week.

Unlike Manchester City, Monchengladbach's start to the domestic campaign was quite disappointing with four straight losses after which they suffered a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Sevilla in the champion's league which was followed by a 1-0 loss to FC Koln back home which resulted in the resignation of manager Lucien Favre. Andre Schubert stepped in and guided them to their first win (4-2) which came against Augsburg. This was followed by another win against Stuttgart (3-1) bringing about a sense of relief in the team as they moved out of the danger zone in the table.

Manchester City : WWLLWL

What the Managers say

Pellegrini : " I expect a very good game against a very big club. We want to recover the points we dropped at home, but we must play with a very high quality. It is not a final but it is a very important game for us".

Andre Schubert : "Manchester City are a very good side with outstanding players, but for me, they are not an overwhelmingly superior side. We are not awe-struck. We will try to stifle their qualities and show ours. Their recent defeats are nothing to do with this game. This is just about the Champions League."

Team News

For City, Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony, Clichy, Delph, Mangala and Kompany have been ruled out of this fixture.

David Silva and Joe Hart have been named in the squad and are expected to return.
