After a gap of two seasons, Indian opener Murali Vijay had been given an opportunity to play in ODIs against Zimbabwe to make full use of this opportunity without looking too far ahead. He has not had a decent run in ODIs, but persist he was not blaming anyone, said Vijay.
Vijay said, during an open media session ahead of the Indian team's departure that "I have got an opportunity to play in ODIs after two seasons. I love to play One-day internationals and am looking forward to do well in this series. But I am not looking too far ahead. In seven seasons since I made my debut (in Tests), I have played just 14 ODIs. I am not blaming anyone, but when you don't have a specific role to play, it becomes difficult. I am not cribbing, but only want do well on this tour."
Vijay has not received many opportunities in limited-overs formats, despite having fine form in Test Cricket. The Indian opener said he wanted to do his best in all three formats of the game. "I love to play and want to play all three formats. I used to be considered as a good one-day player for my state. Later on, I got the opportunity to play Tests and I enjoyed it. It (the Zimbabwe tour) is also a good opportunity to all the players. We are all raring to go out and do well on this tour. I think we will do well," he said. All I am looking forward to is the opportunity. A lot of us were in the fringes (for ODIs)," he said.
For the Zimbabwe tour, Robin Uthappa is also part of the Indian squad is keen to make best use of the opportunity given to him. "I am very grateful that finally I will get a whole series to play after playing one or two games in a year. I am looking forward to the tour. This is the opportunity I was waiting for last three to four years. The hard work I have put in has given me positive results now. I want to make the opportunity I have got. I want to consolidate my place in the squad, as I believe I have a lot to offer for the Indian team," Uthappa said.
Robin Uthappa being a wicketkeeper-batsman he has its advantages and disadvantages, according to him and said "It has been quite an enjoyable journey (being a wicketkeeper-batsman). Initially it was a bit of a trouble, but as time went I fell in love with it. Once I kept wickets in Indian Premier League (IPL) and Champions League T20 (CLT20), I thought of taking it as a full time (profession). It came at a perfect time when my batting clicked. I could invest the same time which I did in batting, in the wicket-keeping as well. Today I am enjoying keeping the wickets. It gives us so much of information while you are standing behind the wickets and see what's going on in the field," Uthappa said.
